I drove over to Jeff's so that he could drive me right back to the airport to get on this jet...

It was a lovely flight and Eric met me at the Syracuse airport and picked me up in his new Toyota Matrix...

After a short drive to Lance's lovely lakeside house, I spent a lot of time reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Of course Eric was never too far away, ready to make one of his special mojitos with fresh mint from the garden...

On Wednesday or Thursday (I really don't remember) we took a drive to the neighboring Seneca Lake for a lovely winery tour...

The wines were quite good...

Although it's very easy to get carried away...

On Saturday night, Eric, Lance, and I drove to Middletown, NY to attend a concert by a guitar folk trio called Girly Man

And one of the three of us at the table. By the way, they have some of the best Merlot I've ever tasted.

OK, so Sunday morning we said good-bye to Lance at the sketchy bus stop in Middletown, NY and hit the road. Destination - Quebec!
Up along the NY State Thruway, we passed through Albany and the northern mountains off I-87. As is our custom, we took a little detour to see the highest mountain in the state, Mt. Marcy, elevation 5344 feet. Here's a pic of Eric in front of it...

The border crossing went well and we were soon on our way past Montreal, up to Quebec City. We stopped at a Tim Horton's (kind of like a Dunkin Donuts) on the way and no one spoke English, so I mangled the French language and ordered Eric and I two coffees for the long drive ahead. Along the way we saw a sign that reminded us of one of our favorite movies.

So we got to our first of two hotels in QC, the Concorde, which was really beautiful and gave us a tremendous view of the newer part of the city. For some reason I forgot to bring my camera to get a pic though! Anyway, here's a pic of Eric in front of the Congres du Quebec building.

Old Quebec is the only city in North America surrounded by a city wall. Here's a pic of one of the entrances...

And you can take a diagonal elevator to get to the lower part by the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Here's me on the street nearby...

Walking around old Quebec is like walking around in an old European city. Here's a pic of Notre Dame les Victores...

And a pic of Eric at the tip of the city by the gulf, looking up at the Chateau Frontenac, a beautiful old hotel where we later had cocktails.

Our second night was at the Hilton, right across the street from the Congres du Quebec. Here's a view out the window...

OK, so we pick up the trip leaving Quebec City, heading down across New Brunswick towards Halifx, Novia Scotia. It was about a 10 hour drive through mostly woods, so there wasn't really a lot of picture taking. We did make a special stop, however, to see the world's longest covered bridge in Hartland, New Brunswick. The bridge was completed in 1901, and is 1282 feet...

We arrived in Halifax after dark and checked into our hotel, which is the red building in the picture here...

The next day, we got in the car for a little surfing safari in Lawrencetown...

We made a stop to check out the coast at Moose Point...

Eric rented a board at the Kannon Beach Surf Shop and I took a hike along the coast to get some shots of Eric surfing...

That was one of the longest rides Eric has ever had! And here's where I was taking the pics...

Aftwerwards, we drove back in to Halifax for some sightseeing. One of the first places, and the most prominent, is the Citadel. I have

We then went to the Maritime Museum, where we learned about the Halifax explosion of 1917, the largest man-made explosion in history until the atomic bomb. We also got to see the light from an old lighthouse...

We got to touch a piece of the bow from HMS Victory, Lord Nelson's flag ship. Adam also got to touch the figurehead of another ship...

There was also a nice display of small sailboats...

Alas, our vacation was coming to an end. After a fun night out in Halifax, we packed up the car and headed for Massachusetts, via New Brunswick and Maine. Along the way, we stopped for lobster rolls in Maine (sooooo good!) and also the Bay of Fundy, in St. John, New Brunswick. The tide changes as much 53 feet, the most in the world! Here's low tide...
